Wednesday's Tech Time during HS Delayed Start
Wednesday Tech Time during PEP- Presentation
BOOKME for Tech Time!Richland 2 Parent Institute Presents:
How It's Done Is Important The teaching profession is critical to our community and world. If done with the right mindset, you will find that it has the power to inspire the next President of the United States or develop the mind that will end world hunger. With assuming that responsibility, it's certainly not a profession for the faint of heart. As a teacher and now coach, I understand the importance of making the right impact on students and it's imperative we "work smarter and not harder." Through collaboration and sharing of ideas it creates a stronger chance that we will be successful in meeting the diverse needs of our students. I know that wasn't very techie, however, it is a very important part of the puzzle that governs why it's important that we choose the best tools for our practice, which includes technology. Mastering this art involves using the best tool to support our students in developing the 4 cs - critical thinking, communication, creating, and collaborating skills (nea.org). Instead of sharing some great articles, I share with you a list of your peers along with one or two skills that they posses that directly supports Richland 2 instructional practices and our modified Blended/ Flipped classroom efforts. This list is limited, as I only put down one or 2 items for each but it's a start. I hope you don't mind, I just think our fellow teachers are a perfect beginning to designing personalized learning for our students. Take this list and go collaborate! Hour of Code 2016
"Blythewood Academy had a busy day on Friday, December 9th. In addition to Career Day, we had our Hour of Code! "The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science (code.org)." This is a national movement and has moved beyond just an hour and is occuring year round in some schools and homes. "Computer science drives innovation throughout the US economy, but it remains marginalized throughout K-12 education. There are currently 517,393 open computing jobs nationwide. Last year, only 42,969 computer science students graduated into the workforce (code.org)."Hopefully through our efforts we will have students that pursue careers in the field of Computer Science.
Thank you for allowing your students time to participate in coding activities during your class time and thank you for dressing in character to get our students excited about learning to code. You lead by example! For your efforts, each student received a certificate of completion, popcorn, water, and a candy snack bag as incentive for completing their coding task. Mr. Keels & Mrs. Higgins assisted with the donations of these items. Mr. Brown and our students assisted with packaging them up and getting them to teacher's classroom.
When you see our Coding Ambassadors, congratulate them! Coding Ambassadors were chosen by their teachers because they also led by example, were fully engaged, and went above & beyond in participating in their coding activities. Those students were notified at the end of the day and got to pick an item from the grab bag. Items in the grab bag included: earbuds, selfie sticks, and movie theater candy. I appreciate EVERYONES efforts in exposing our students to these valuable computer science skills.
In my excitement, I did not get pictures of our students coding:/ So if you documented your coding activities through pictures share them with me.

We will be having a Blythewood Academy's Day of Code Please sign - up for your activity here. Here are some videos to introduce the Hour of Code. It can get us into the spirit of this national coding effort to expose children to Coding and the Computer Science field. Thanks! Green
